I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a story about a man who came to my home after Hurricane Ike and completely remodeled it. The man is Keith Downs. He was truly a hero to me and my girls. He came to my home in November of 2008. I could not get any other contractor to even answer my calls for six weeks. He walked my property and explained the damages. I had no stairs on either side of my home. I was climbing a ladder to get inside. The first thing he said to me was even if I did not hire him to do the job, I had to have stairs and he would see to it that it was done immediately. He said I did not need to be climbing a ladder with my girls. So, in the next week I had stairs. Needless to say I hired Keith to do the job. I will never regret that decision. He was on the job to oversee the work of his crew. My insurance company refused to pay for the damages stating that they were not covered. As a single, working mother of 4 girls, I did not have the time to fight the insurance company. Keith made it his business to help in that area also. These were not things that I had associated with a contractor; however he went above and beyond the call of duty. It took him some time to fight the insurance companies, but he did not give up. He worked relentlessly to get a settlement that would cover the cost of my damages, never stopping the work on my house. He did much of the work himself and at cost. His work was that of a true craftsman. I highly recommend Keith Downs Custom Homes in either new construction or on remodeling. You will be more than satisfied with the work he does. He really does make dreams come true. I have a home for my family that we can be proud of thanks to Keith.

I met Keith Downs after walking through some beach homes which impressed me; he was the Builder. I decided to buy one of the homes he had just completed, however, before I could get a face-to-face meeting with him, Mr. Downs has a solid offer and two backup offers on this home. So, I called Mr. Downs and set up a meeting of my own.
In the Summer of 2005, I contracted Keith to build a custom beach home for myself to entertain my friends and clients. We met and discussed plans and terms, etc. Keith spent five hours answering my detailed questions and making suggestions to further enhance my home. Keith started my home and in less than five weeks it took a hit from hurricane Rita. The subdivision was 80% wiped out along with other homes in surrounding areas. Keith was one of the first responders to our area. To my astonishment, only my stairs had been taken by the storm. We measured a high water line 10 foot up the pilings, but had no other damage to the structure.
Keith carefully monitored to assure all windstorm items were in place and nothing overlooked. The home was completed sometime later and we loved it. My clients and friends were a constant at my home. To our surprise, Hurricane Ike followed Rita and also impacted our area; this time almost wiping out the entire area. When we returned it was amazing to fine my home, along with only 10 or so other homes Keith had built, were all still standing and had very little damage to any of these made up the majority of our area left protected and unharmed.
If you are looking for an honest home builder, one with integrity and does what he says he will do, and a far superior home at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Keith Downs Custom Homes, LLC. When we decided to build our home we put our house plan out for bids to various builders. After meeting with prospective builders, Keith was the one who impressed us the most with his bid and what he promised he would do for us. We were not disappointed, the entire build was stress free. Keith was a man who stood by his word and built a home that was by far better than each of our 2 previous custom built homes. My husband has been involved in construction from working on a framing crew to remodeling homes and I worked for a nationwide home builder and a custom home builder – none of their homes could hold a candle to what Keith did. We have been privileged to have Keith Downs be our home builder. He does such an excellent job! We have had two homes built by Keith, and will ask him to build any of our future homes as well. We were able to be involved in the whole process of building our homes. When it came to deciding on fixtures and finishes his insight was very valuable. He understands that a house should stand the test of time and where you should be spending more or less in your home. In this economy that is important!
Our first home Keith built for us was efficient economical and gorgeous. It was everything our new family needed wrapped up in a beautiful package. When our family started to grow and needed more space we called upon Keith again to help us build our second home. He worked with us to come up with a design that best suited our needs and wants. We were amazed when it came all together with the finished product. We got what we wanted and more. Our friends were jealous. We had complete strangers stop by and offer to buy our home as we were moving in (they had been watching the whole building process waiting to see a for sale sign put in the yard.) We lived there for two wonderful years and the compliments never stopped.
When we had to move because of a job change we were devastated. We put the house up for sale scared we wouldn't get enough to move or even cover our mortgage because of the economy (Spring 2009.) We had four offers on our house in the first 30 days. The Realtors were fighting to get their clients into our "easy sell." We weren't so devastated after accepting an offer for a good amount over our original purchase price. We closed within 60 days of listing the house. The house stood the test of time and economic downturn - what more can you ask for?
Keith Downs WILL be our choice for our home builder again when we get settled. We cannot say enough about what it means to have someone like him be on your team, we recommend him enthusiastically.

Keith and I became friends right after Hurricane Rita six years ago when he repaired and remodeled my beach house. I feel like he charged a very fair price for all his work and I was extremely pleased with the craftsmen that worked on my house. Keith was on site every day ensure the job met his expectations as well as mine.
I am in the process of getting some property on the Bolivar Peninsula ready for a new beach house. Keith is getting the infrastructure in place so that the land will be ready to build on. The infrastructure includes installing a state permitted culvert on Hwy 87, land leveling, driveway, fencing, etc. Keith has made sure the job is being done correctly and at a fair price.
